Colonial 1779 Rhode Island Ship Token No Wreath Below - Pewter. NGC XF45  $8,750
Quite the historical token! The obverse depicts British Admiral Lord Richard Howe’s flagship. The reverse depicts the Continental Army retreating from Aquidneck Island while being surrounded by British ships commanded by Admiral Howe’s flagship. The obverse was thought to have been Admiral Howe’s flagship fleeing Narragansett Bay in 1779, but recent research suggests that these tokens were either British made for the Dutch market, or entirely Dutch made, so that theory would not make sense. Greysheet bid is $9000.

Colonial 1779 Rhode Island Ship Token Pewter No Wreath Below Ship PCGS VF details  $3,950
Environmental damage. The obverse depicts British Admiral Lord Richard Howe’s flagship. Below the ship, the word “Vlugtende” was mistakenly added. “Vlugtende” is Dutch for fleeing. This token was supposed to influence the Dutch to have a more positive attitude towards the British during the American Revolution, so having a British ship with the word “fleeing” underneath, would contradict the whole purpose of the token.

Colonial 1789 "GW Long Live The President" Inaugural Button    $2,550
28mm. "Narrow Spacing" variety. Original shank intact. Though the whole of the button looks to be copper, the mottled toning of the front and back is more suggestive of brass, which we believe this to be. Chancellor of New York Robert Livingston, who administered Washington's oath, is reported to have turned to the crowd of spectators after his duty was done, shouting, "Long Live George Washington, President of the United States!". A very neat piece of Americana.
