Gold Double Eagle 1857-S PCGS MS65  $13,200 New
A neat looking gem! Struck during the early years of the San Francisco Mint. The vast majority of uncirculated 1857-S Double Eagles were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Central America, which sank in 1857 while en route to New York. It's very likely that this piece was aboard the S.S. Central America and was subsequently recovered during the discovery of the wreck. Greysheet bid is $13,200 and PCGS Price Guide is $17,500.
